Observational 2017 - to date

Margate Sands, 2017

The hottest days in a London Summer prompt a visit to Margate for the self-employed. ‘Margate Sands,’ is just one of many happy memories of a day on the beach, that I’ve recorded on a pot. Margate is known for its extraordinary light that has drawn painters there for more than a century.

Tottenham Sledging, 2018

London snow deep enough for sledging is a rare event. In Tottenham, where I live, the local population turns out en masse to take advantage of our well lit park that permits night time sledging. Snow silences even the noisiest cities and this night scene shows the stillness as well as the crowds.

Wootton Frost at Dawn, 2018

This is the Glyme Vallery in Oxfordshire, where I grew up. Early morning frosts, tinged pink with the sunrise, are a potent memory. Several days of frost coats the trees in ice so they also, briefly, turn pink at dawn.

Yalda, 2021

Yalda night is the Iranian name for the winter solstice, celebrated with family and an abundance of pomegranates. It would normally be a family occasion but this was 2020 so were only two - three with the cat. It was a memorably joyful evening though.

We Are Family, 2020

These are the three adults, one baby, and a cat that filled my Covid lockdown times with much needed companionship – mostly on WhatsApp and Zoom: an alternative family presented in screen shaped frames. One was in Iran, two were down the road, another was in Iran and then returned to England – just in time for the final lockdown. Only the cat held out for the duration.
