Chrysanthemum bowl, 2022

Small shallow bowl decorated with freely drawn design of Chrysanthemums in white slip and sgraffito on a warm, peaty black clay ground.

Signed and dated.

Materials: Black earthstone/red earthenware mix, pinch pot, with clear glaze and lustre on the rim.

25 cm diameter x 5 cm deep.

Chrysanthemums have appeared on pots for thousands of years and were also a great favourite with painters, particularly 19th Century French painters. Monet, in particular had a great love of these characteristically Autumnal flowers.
