About:

In April 2008, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Esfahan, Iran, invited me to do a solo show – the show was planned for May 2009. As I packed up the completed work in preparation for transport to Esfahan, my visa number, issued a week earlier, was withdrawn. ‘Sensitivities’ was reason given and the exhibition was cancelled a week before it was due to open.

The show would have run throughout campaigning period leading up to the disputed Presidential elections of June 12th 2009, now thought by many Iranians to have been, de facto, a coup d’etat. It prompted widespread rebellion, in both small towns and major cities. Savage repression by government forces followed and foreign visitors and press were not welcome.

How to Eat a Pomegranate has since been shown in England, at Gallery Oldham, at The New Schoolhouse Gallery in York and at The Original Gallery, in London. It as been reviewed in the ceramics press, (Ceramic Review 246), and has been seen on Manoto TV, an Iranian diaspora satellite television channel which broadcasts in Farsi, both in Iran and internationally.
